Leben
Michelle wuchs in Blumberg mit einem Bruder und einer Schwester auf. Als Zehnjährige kam sie zu einer Pflegefamilie. Mit 14 sang sie in einer lokalen Band. Über den Kontakt zu einem Toningenieur kam sie zum Südwestfunk, wo sie ihren ersten öffentlichen Auftritt hatte. Dort wurde sie von der Schlagersängerin Kristina Bach entdeckt. Der Komponist Jean Frankfurter schrieb und produzierte für Michelle 1993 die erste Single Und heut' Nacht will ich tanzen; Kristina Bach textete den komplett im Keyboardsound produzierten Song. Die Single wurde ein großer Erfolg in den Schlagerparaden und brachte Michelle auch in die ZDF-Hitparade. Danach folgten weitere Schallplattenaufnahmen und Live-Auftritte bei Rundfunk und Fernsehen.
Karriere
1994 bewarb sich Michelle mit Silbermond und Sternenfeuer bei den Deutschen Schlager-Festspielen und erreichte den 2. Platz („Silberne Muse“). Am 27. Februar 1997 bewarb sich Michelle bei der Vorentscheidung zum Eurovision Song Contest 1997.
Ihr Titel Im Auge des Orkans erreichte den 3. Platz. Wenige Tage später stand sie bei den Deutschen Schlager-Festspielen 1997 wieder auf der Bühne und gewann mit ihrem Titel Wie Flammen im Wind die „Goldene Muse“, die Trophäe dieser Veranstaltung. 
Nachdem sie am 2. März 2001 die deutsche Vorausscheidung zum Eurovision Song Contest mit Wer Liebe lebt gewonnen hatte, vertrat sie Deutschland am 12. Mai 2001 in Kopenhagen und belegte den 8. Platz. Für Schlagzeilen sorgte 2002 ihre Beziehung mit Jens Riewa.
Im April 2003 erlitt sie unmittelbar vor einem Konzertauftritt einen leichten Schlaganfall, von dem sie sich wieder vollkommen erholte. Michelle litt einige Zeit unter schweren Depressionen und unternahm nach eigenen Angaben einen Selbstmordversuch. Danach zog sie sich vorübergehend aus dem Schlagergeschäft zurück und eröffnete unter lebhaftem Interesse der Boulevardmedien einen
inzwischen wieder geschlossenen Hundefrisör-Salon.
Im Frühjahr 2005 erschien nach längerer Pause wieder ein neues Album mit dem Titel Leben, das binnen weniger Wochen vergoldet wurde.
2006 veröffentlichte Michelle als Tanja Thomas Coverversionen von Disco-Hits der 1970er Jahre, posierte für die Aprilausgabe des Männermagazins Playboy und nahm gemeinsam mit dem Eiskunstläufer Jan Luggenhölscher an der RTL-Show Dancing on Ice teil. Ihr neues Album Glas konnte sich nur sechs Wochen in den
deutschen Charts halten und erreichte lediglich den 12. Platz, womit dieses Album eines der weniger erfolgreichen ist.
Von den Lesern der Männerzeitschrift Maxim wurde sie zur Woman of the Year 2006 gewählt, weshalb sie sich für die Februar-Ausgabe 2007 auszog und erneut mit erotischen Fotos für Aufsehen sorgte. Bereits für die Oktober-Ausgabe 2002 posierte Michelle nackt vor der Kamera.
Am 30. Januar 2007 erlitt sie während eines Konzertes in Erfurt einen Schwächeanfall. Die Tour wurde kurz darauf ganz abgesagt.
Am 12. März 2007 verkündete sie auf einer Pressekonferenz, dass das „Projekt“ Michelle beendet sei. Am 29. August 2008 meldete sie Privatinsolvenz an, am 4. November 2008 wurde das Insolvenzverfahren wegen Zahlungsunfähigkeit offiziell eröffnet - Tanja Oberloher hat Restschuldbefreiung beantragt.
Am 16. Oktober 2009 wurde das neue Studioalbum von Michelle veröffentlicht. Zudem trat die Sängerin am 17. Oktober 2009 in der ARD-Show Das Herbstfest der Volksmusik (moderiert von Florian Silbereisen) auf.
Privates
Michelle hat drei Kinder: aus ihrer Ehe (1995-1999) mit Albert Oberloher, Sänger bei Wind, die Tochter Céline, die in Dieter Bohlens Castingshow Das Supertalent auftrat; eine weitere Tochter aus ihrer Beziehung mit Matthias Reim und eine Tochter aus ihrer Ehe mit Josef Shitawey. Die beiden gaben im Februar 2010 das Ende ihrer Ehe bekannt.

Das letzte Album „Goodbye Michelle“ war, wie viele sicher noch wissen, eigentlich so etwas wie ein Abschiedsgeschenk an die Michelle Fans, von denen sich die attraktive Sängerin nie richtig verabschieden konnte. Doch das Schicksal meinte es anders. Die Fans wollten Michelle wieder auf der Bühne sehen und schrieben ihr unzählige Briefe und Mails. Michelle kamen erste Zweifel, ob der endgültige Abschied von der Bühne die richtige Entscheidung war, denn die Musik ist und war neben der Familie immer ein bestimmender Teil ihres Lebens. Mittlerweile ist die Entscheidung zu Gunsten der Musik eindeutig gefallen.
Mit dem vorliegenden Album „Der beste Moment“ meldet sich eine der populärsten und bedeutendsten Schlagerstars unserer Zeit eindrucksvoll zurück. Michelle hat im Schlagergeschäft alles erreicht, was zu erreichen ist: Zu ihren Karrierehighlights gehören Goldauszeichnungen für fast alle ihre Studioalben sowie Platin für die Retrospektive ihrer größten Hits und Erfolge, zwei Echo-Auszeichnungen und der unvergesslich glamouröse Auftritt beim Grand Prix des Jahres 2001 mit "Wer Liebe lebt“, wo sie in Kopenhagen einen für Deutschland hervorragenden achten Platz erreichte.
Das aktuelle Album „Der beste Moment“ ist ein überaus ehrliches und sehr persönliches Werk. Gleich der Startsong „Manage frei für mein Gefühl“ legt das Motto des Album offen: „ich bin da und das mit ganzer Kraft und ganzem Herzen“. Der getragene Refrain der balladesken, hitverdächtigen Nummer geht ins Ohr, berührt, verführt und ist in jeder Note Michelle pur.
Diese Aufrichtigkeit und Selbstreflexion ist auch im Weiteren Programm. Speziell die klassisch arrangierte Ballade „Zieh vor dir selber den Hut“ spiegelt dies respektvoll wider. Viele Menschen, die schon mal schwere Lebenskrisen durchlebt und gemeistert haben und daraus letztlich gestärkt hervorgegangen sind, werden sich mit diesem Song identifizieren können. Der treibende Pop- und Titelsong „Der beste Moment“ blickt denn auch durchweg optimistisch nach vorne: „Das ist der Moment für den ich lebe, ist der schönste Augenblick und ich weiß genau, ich will nicht mehr zurück…“ Die Entscheidung ist getroffen, es gibt keine Zweifel mehr, denn der beste Moment ist jetzt.
Mit dem Lied „Königin und König“ kommen wir zu einem musikalischen Höhepunkt des Albums. Der Song brilliert durch sein danciges Poparrangement, das die Tanzflächen der Republik garantiert füllen wird. Ein weiterer Tanzflächenfüller ist das Lied „Frau im Spiegel“. Der eingängige Song ist eine klassische Discofox Nummer. Mit den Zeilen „Ich bin mein Weg und ich bin mein Ziel“ und „ich liebe, was ich bin“ gibt Michelle den guten Rat, ohne Kompromisse zu sich selbst zu stehen, immer wieder mutig und stark den eigenen Weg zu gehen…
Sucht man auf „Der beste Moment“ nach einem Leitmotiv, ist es ohne Frage in dem Wort „Liebe“ zu finden. Wobei es hierbei nicht nur um die Liebe zwischen den Geschlechtern geht. Ein gutes Beispiel für eine etwas andere Herangehensweise an dieses Thema ist der Song „Am Ende siegt immer die Liebe“. Hier geht es um eine sehr persönliche Botschaft der Künstlerin, die immer an die Kraft der Liebe glaubt. Es ist ein wunderschöner Song mit der klaren Aussage - „wer liebt, der lebt“. Im Gegensatz hierzu ist die emotionale Ballade „Himmelweit“ ein klassisches Liebeslied, das der Sängerin Michelle mit viel Gefühl und Pathos auf den Leib geschrieben wurde. Sinnlich und voller Poesie gehört auch diese Ballade zu den Höhepunkten des Albums.
Der graue Monat November lädt bekanntlich zu tiefgründigen, bisweilen melancholischen Gedanken ein. Und so ist in diesem Zusammenhang schon so manche großartige Ballade entstanden. „Ein Morgen im November“ ist so ein bewegendes, in Moll gehaltenes Novemberlied. Es geht um das beiderseitige Erlöschen einer Liebe, um Trennung. Doch am Ende blinkt das Licht des Optimismus auf, denn an einem Morgen im November „da fingen Rosen an zu blühen“ und ein neuer Lebensabschnitt nimmt seinen schicksalhaften Lauf.
Der Schlusspunkt des Albums ist die sehr persönliche Ballade „Sternenkind“. Lyrisch, poetisch, voll tiefem, ehrlichem Gefühl erzählt der Song, dessen Text aus der Feder von Michelle selbst stammt, die Geschichte des Sternenkindes, das jetzt von Engeln bewacht im Himmel lebt. Ein wirklich großer Song, der auf direkte, emotionale Art und Weise den Kern der Liebe und damit den Sinn des Lebens an sich trifft.
„Der beste Moment“ ist ein Schlageralbum, das Grenzen überschreitet und voller persönlicher, aufrichtiger Momente steckt. Der Tonträger überzeugt auf ganzer Linie, weil er ohne Umwege ins Herz eindringt und viel Raum für eigene Gedanken lässt. „Der beste Moment“ ist darum eines der besten, aufrichtigsten und bewegendsten Schlageralben der letzten Dekade.

Das Album beginnt mit „Mach das Licht nicht an“, einem Pop-Song mit Gänsehaut-Appeal im Uptempo, der unter die Haut geht. Fortgesetzt wird das Programm mit „Wie“, einer bewegenden Ballade, die in ihrer musikalischen Bandbreite eine einzigartige Dramatik entfaltet und einmal mehr die romantische Seite MICHELLES dokumentiert. Danach „Wach geküsst“, ein Track, welcher zeigt, dass die Mauern einer verletzten Frau zunächst eingerissen werden müssen, damit wieder Platz für eine neue Liebe entstehen kann. Dieser Track gibt MICHELLE die Gelegenheit als einfühlsame Sängerin zu brillieren. Auf den an französische Chansons angelehnten Song „Das Hotel in St. Germain (Version 2012)“ aus dem Hitalbum „Rouge“ folgt die thematische Fortsetzung „Abschied von St. Germain“. Gemeinsam erzählen die kunstvollen Titel von einer verbotenen Liebesgeschichte mit tragischem Ausgang, die ganz tief berührt. „Große Liebe“ ist ein von Elektronic-Beats beeinflusster Uptempo-Popsong mit starkem Text, bei dem man sofort Lust bekommt, die Tanzflächen dieser Welt zu erobern. Eine Perle im zeitgemäßen Popoutfit stellt „Unterm Mond“ dar, ebenfalls ein Titel, der für Michelle maßgefertigt ist. Als sehr balladesk und hymnisch erweist sich „Straße der Sehnsucht“. Live
Michelle grew up in mountain Blum with a brother and a sister. As ten-year-olds she came to a foster home. With 14 she sang in a local volume. About the contact with a sound engineer she came to the southwest radio where she had her first public appearance. There it was discovered by pop singer Kristina Bach. The composer Jean Frankfurter wrote and produced for Michelle in 1993 the first single Und tonight I want to dance; Kristina Bach wrote the song completely produced in the keyboard sound. The single became a great success in the hit parades and brought Michelle also in the ZDF hit parade. Then other sound recordings and live appearances followed with broadcasting company and television.
Career
In 1994 Michelle with silver moon and star fire applied in the German hit festival and reached the 2nd place („Silver muse“). On the 27th of February, 1997 Michelle applied with the preliminary decision to the Eurovision song contest in 1997. Their title in the eye of the hurricane reached the 3rd place. Few days later she stood in the German hit festival 1997 again on the stage and won with her title Like flames in the wind the „golden muse“, the trophy of this event.
After she on the 2nd of March, 2001 the German preremoval to the Eurovision song contest with Whom love lives had won, she represented Germany on the 12th of May, 2001 in Copenhagen and booked the 8th place. Her respect with Jens Riewa provided for headlines in 2002.
In April, 2003 she suffered immediately before a concert appearance a light stroke from which she recovered again completely. Michelle suffered some time from heavy depressions and undertook an attempted suicide according to own information. Then she withdrew temporarily from the hit business and opened under lively interest of the boulevard media a dog hairdresser's drawing room closed again in the meantime.
In spring, 2005 a new album with the title Life which was gilt within less weeks appeared after longer break again.
In 2006 Michelle published as Tanya Thomas Coverversionen of disco hits of the 1970s, posed for the April issue of the man's magazine Playboy and took part together with the figure skater Jan Luggenhölscher in the RTL show dance hall on Ice. Their new album glass could keep only six weeks in the German charts and reached the only 12th place with which this album is one of the less successful ones.
It was chosen by the readers of the man's magazine Maxim to the Woman of the Year in 2006, which is why she got undressed for the February issue in 2007 and provided once more with erotic photos for sensation. Already for the October issue in 2002 Michelle posed in the nude before the camera.
On the 30th of January, 2007 she suffered during a concert in Erfurt a weakness attack. The tour was completely called off shortly after.
On the 12th of March, 2007 she announced in a press conference that the "project" Michelle is finished. 29th of August, 2008 she announced private insolvency, on the 4th of November, 2008 the insolvency procedure was officially opened because of insolvency - Tanya Oberloher has applied for rest debt freeing.
On the 16th of October, 2009 the new studio album was published by Michelle. Besides, the singer appeared on the 17th of October, 2009 during the ARD show The autumn party of the folk music (presented by Florian Silbereisen).
The private
Michelle has three children: from her marriage (in 1995-1999) with Albert Oberloher, singer with wind, which daughter Céline who appeared during Dieter Bohlen's casting show The supertalent; an other daughter from her respect with Matthias Reim and a daughter from her marriage with Josef Shitawey. The both announced the end of her marriage in February, 2010.

Michelle there came the first doubts whether the final resignation of the stage was the right decision, because the music is and was beside the family always a decisive part of her life. With the present album „The best moment“ reports back one of the most popular and most important hit stars of our time impressively. Michelle has reached everything in the hit business what is to be reached: Golden honourings belong to her career highlights for almost all her studio albums as well as platinum for the retrospective of her biggest hits and success, two echo honourings and the unforgettably glamorous appearance with the Grand Prix of 2001 "with Whom love lives“ where she reached the eighth place jutting out for Germany in Copenhagen.
The topical album „The best moment“ is an exceedingly honest and very personal work. Immediately the start song „Manages freely for my feeling“ discloses the motto of the album: „I am there and with whole strength and whole heart“.
