Privatleben
Gerhard Friedle, Sohn des österreichischen DJ Anton Friedle wuchs zunächst bei Pflegeeltern, später bei seiner Großmutter auf. Nach einer Lehre zum Koch in Seefeld in Tirol war er Anfang der 1990er Jahre einige Monate obdachlos.
Im Jahr 2001 heiratete er in seinem Geburtsort seine Verlobte, die Musikmanagerin Sonja Kien. Am 17. September 2002 wurde ihre gemeinsame Tochter geboren.
Debüt
Um 1995 wurde Friedle auf einem Karaoke-Wettbewerb entdeckt und arbeitete im Anschluss als Animateur, DJ und Sänger, zunächst in Österreich, später auch auf Mallorca und in der Türkei. Ende der 1990er-Jahre wurde er von dem Produzententeam Ultimatief, das zu der Zeit auch mit A klana Indiana zusammenarbeitete, unter Vertrag genommen und sie arbeiteten ein Album, genannt Das Album (unter dem Namen Anton feat. DJ Ötzi), aus.
1999 erreichte Anton feat. DJ Ötzi zusammen mit seiner Interpretation des von Fritz Schicho, Manfred Padinger und Walter Schachner geschriebenen Titels „Anton aus Tirol“ größere Bekanntheit im deutschsprachigen Raum (75 Wochen in den österreichischen 
Charts). Da die Frauenstimme auf der Single-Veröffentlichung eine gerade zufällig im Studio anwesende Sängerin einer ABBA-Cover-Band gesungen hatte, trat er nach dem überwältigenden Erfolg des Songs für die Tournee zusammen mit Sandra Stumptner alias Antonia auf. Außerdem war seine Single in den niederländischen Charts auf Platz 2 und in Dänemark zeichnete sich mit seinem Debüt-Album ein ähnlich großer Erfolg mit dem dritten Platz ab. Bis heute ist „Anton aus Tirol“ die meistverkaufte österreichische Single.
Hey Baby
Im Jahr 2000 wurde DJ Ötzis zweites Album Love, Peace & Vollgas
veröffentlicht, welches im Gegensatz zu seinem Debüt anfangs in den Charts nicht besonders erfolgreich war. {/source} Nachdem das Album in anderen Ländern veröffentlicht worden war, erreichte DJ Ötzi mit dem Song Hey Baby, einer Coverversion des Hits von Bruce Channel aus dem Jahr 1961, seinen bisher größten Erfolg. Das Lied war in Großbritannien und in Australien auf Platz 1 sowie in 20 weiteren Ländern in den Charts vertreten. Er war der erste österreichische Künstler, der in Großbritannien eine Gold- und Platinauszeichnung erhielt. In den USA wurde der Titel von manchen Country-Sendern gespielt.{source}
2001 bis 2006
Auch 2002 gab es einen großen Hit für den Tiroler. Er veröffentlichte mit der Hermes House Band eine Coverversion des Opus- Klassikers Live Is Life. In Österreich unbeachtet, gab es in vielen Ländern einen ähnlich großen Erfolg wie mit Hey Baby. Allein in Frankreich wurde die Single rund 800.000 mal verkauft.
Im Sommer 2003 weigerten sich sämtliche deutsche Musiksender, seinen Nummer-1-Hit „Burger Dance” zu spielen. Bei dem Titel handelte es sich um ein Kinderlied („A Ram Sam Sam”), umgedichtet zu einer Aufzählung von Fast-Food-Anbietern. Der Musikjournalist Peter Illmann sagte in der RTL-Chart-Show über das Lied: „Dieser Song ist eine Unverschämtheit.” Drei Jahre lang war musikalisch von DJ Ötzi wenig zu hören. Veröffentlichungen wie Not Without Us, Tanz den Rehakles oder Servus die Wadln waren kommerzielle Misserfolge.
Anfang 2006 brachte DJ Ötzi zusammen mit Marc Pircher das Lied „7 Sünden” heraus, eine Coverversion des Liedes von Uwe Busse. Damit konnte er in Österreich wieder an alte Erfolge anschließen, in Deutschland kam der Song nicht über Platz 30 hinaus. Im September 2006 erschien eine Coverversion von „I Am the Music Man” von DJ Ötzi, im Original von dem englischen Duo Black Lace. Hierbei handelt es sich um ein Kinderlied, wovon es ein Musikvideo im Zeichentrickstil gibt. Der Titel war bislang in Deutschland nicht offiziell erhältlich, deutschen Mallorca-Touristen allerdings durch die dortigen Mini Discos bekannt.
Sternstunden-Album
Einen neuerlichen Nummer-1-Hit in Deutschland und Österreich erreichte DJ Ötzi (diesmal zusammen mit Nik P.) im Februar 2007 mit einer Neuaufnahme des Schlagers Ein Stern (...der deinen Namen trägt).
Der Song konnte sich in Österreich ganze 13 Wochen auf der Spitzenposition halten. In Deutschland blieb er 11 Wochen lang die Nummer 1. Sowohl in Österreich, Deutschland und der Schweiz schaffte er es mit Ein Stern auf Platz 1 der Jahrescharts 2007 und bekam in Österreich und in Deutschland je eine Doppel-Platin-Auszeichnung. Mitte Oktober wurde der Hit als Balladen-Version aufgenommen und konnte sich in der Schweiz sogar unter die Top 3 mischen.
Auch das Album Sternstunden war eines der erfolgreichsten des Jahres 2007. Es wurde mehrere Male in verschiedenen Editionen veröffentlicht und bekam ebenfalls Platinauszeichnungen in Österreich und Deutschland.
Im Herbst 2007 meinte er in einem Interview mit der Tageszeitung Österreich, dass er nicht mehr als DJ Ötzi angesprochen werden möchte, da er sich nicht als Mensch wahrgenommen fühle. Im Februar 2008 veröffentlichte DJ Ötzi seine nächste Single I will leb’n.
Ende November 2007 brach DJ Ötzi den Guinness-Rekord für signierte Alben. Er schrieb über 4000 Autogramme für sein Album Sternstunden.
Im Januar 2008 brach der Titel „Ein Stern (… der deinen Namen trägt)“ einen seit 50 Jahren von Die Gitarre und das Meer gehaltenen Rekord: Mit insgesamt 41 Wochen in den deutschen Single-Top-10 verwies der Song Freddy Quinns Nummer-1-Hit aus dem Jahre 1959, der es auf 36 Wochen in den Top 10 gebracht hatte, auf Platz 2 der ewigen Bestenliste. Bis heute verkaufte er sich rund eine Million Mal. Im Februar 2009 stellte DJ Ötzi auch den Rekord für den langlebigsten Song in den Top100 auf, den bis dahin „Die längste Single der Welt“ von Wolfgang Petry innehatte. Für ihn war 1998 nach 81 Wochen Schluss gewesen, „Ein Stern …“ brachte es bis Mai 2012 auf 107 Wochen. Im April 2012 wurde der Rekord von Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenners Sky and Sand mit ebenfalls 107 Wochen eingestellt.
DJ Ötzis musikalisches Schaffen konzentriert sich hauptsächlich auf die Produktion von Coverversionen unterschiedlicher Stilrichtungen. Seine Interpretationen zielen auf leichte Tanzbarkeit und Partytauglichkeit, oft kurze, leicht zu merkende und damit eingängige Refrains. DJ Ötzi bedient sich bei Elementen der Schlager-, der populären Tanz- und der volkstümlichen Musik.

Es ist die Überraschung des Jahres: Gerry Friedle zeigt 2012 eine neue musikalische Facette, die begeistert und verblüfft gleichermaßen. Wie jetzt? Rustikaler, amerikanischer Country-Sound in Kombination mit eingängigem Schlager- Pop? Was im ersten Moment vielleicht seltsam anmutet, ist eine gelungene Kooperation und das ausgefallenste Klang-Experiment des Jahres. Zwar treffen zwei Welten aufeinander, doch DJ Ötzi und The Bellamy Brothers verstehen es gekonnt, diese zu vereinen, vielmehr: Ihnen ist es gelungen, mit ihrem Sound eine neue Welt zu erschaffen.
Als die drei Musiker sich Anfang des Jahres in einem Tonstudio in Berlin trafen, war auf Anhieb eine musikalische Energie zwischen ihnen spürbar. Das Album "Simply The Best" erscheint am 23. März 2012 und vereint 15 Hits aus zweierlei Karrieren: Der Mix aus den bekanntesten Songs von The Bellamy Brothers mit den erfolgreichsten Hits von DJ Ötzi ist vielseitig und vielversprechend. Ohrwürmer wie "Sweet Caroline", "Hey Baby" oder "Let Your Love Flow" sind ebenso vertreten wie erstmals die englische Version von "Ein Stern" ("Like A Star"). Doch auch Gefühle sind groß geschrieben, wenn die drei Musiker gemeinsam die Country-Balladen "If I Sad You Had" oder "I Need More Of You" performen.
Als besonderen Bonus gibt es Coverversionen von großen Welthits, die DJ Ötzi und The Bellamy Brothers in ihren ganz speziellen Sound gekleidet haben. Gerry Friedle gilt seit seinem Durchbruch als DJ Ötzi im Jahr 1999 als nahbarer, österreichischer Volksheld und erfolgreichster Exportkünstler des Landes. Er schaffte es mit über 20 Singles in die deutschen Charts und verkaufte mehr als 16 Millionen Tonträger. Aufgewachsen auf einer Farm in Florida, zeigten sich die Brüder David und Howard Bellamy immer musikinteressiert. In jungen Jahren gründeten sie die Band "Jericho" und machten erste Gehversuche als Musiker. Als sie 1976 von einem Song hörten, den ein Roady von Neil Diamond geschrieben hatte, erkannten die Bellamy Brothers, wie sie sich fortan nannten, das Hitpotential und nahmen "Let Your Love Flow" auf.
Somit war ihr Schicksal besiegelt: Die Nummer erzielte weltweit Top-Platzierungen in den Charts und wurde in Deutschland von Jürgen Drews gecovert: Auch "Ein Bett im Kornfeld" schoss direkt auf Platz 1 der Charts. Von da an waren die Bellamy Brothers eine feste Größe in der Country-Szene und feierten vor allem in Europa große Erfolge. 1979 erreichte die Single "If I Said You Have A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me" erneut Platz 1 der Country-Charts. Private lives
Gerhard Friedle, son of the Austrian DJ Anton Friedle grew up first with foster parents, later with his grandmother. After an apprenticeship to the cook in sea field in Tyrol he was homeless in the beginning of the 1990s some months.
In 2001 he married in his birthplace his fiancée, music manager Sonja Kien. On the 17th of September, 2002 her common daughter was born.
Debut
About 1995 Friedle on a karaoke competition was discovered and worked in the connection as a host, DJ and singer, first in Austria, later also on Majorca and in Turkey. In the end of the 1990s he was taken by the producer's team Ultimatief which worked together at the time also with A klana Indiana under contract and they worked out an album, called The album (under the name Anton feat. DJ Ötzi).
In 1999 Anton feat reached. DJ Ötzi together with his interpretation that of Fritz Schicho, Manfred Padinger and Walter Schachner of written title „Anton from Tyrol“ bigger fame in the German-speaking space (75 weeks in the Austrian charts). Because the women's voice on the single publication had sung a singer just by chance present in the studio of an ABBA cover tape, he appeared after the overpowering success of the song for the tour together with Sandra Stumptner alias Antonia. Moreover, his single was in the Dutch charts on place 2 and in Denmark an alike great success with the third place stood out with his debut album. Till this day „Anton from Tyrol“ is the bestselling Austrian single.
Hey baby
In 2000 DJ Ötzis the second album Love, Peace & full power which was not especially successful in contrast to his debut in the beginning in the charts was published. After the album had been published in other countries, DJ Ötzi with the song reached Hey baby, a cover version of the hit from Bruce Channel from 1961, his success biggest up to now. The song was represented in Great Britain and in Australia on place 1 as well as in 20 other countries in the charts. He was the first Austrian artist who received a golden honouring and platinum honouring in Great Britain. In the USA the title was played by some Country transmitters.
From 2001 to 2006
Also in 2002 there was a big hit for the Tyrolean. He published a cover version of the opus classic's live Is Life with Hermes House Band. In Austria unnoticed, there was in many countries an alike great success like with Hey baby. Only in France the single was sold about 800,000 times.
In summer, 2003 there refused all German music transmitters to play his Number 1 hit „Burger of dance”. With the title it concerned a child song („A Ram Sam Sam”), reworked to an enumeration of fast-food suppliers. Music journalist Peter Illmann said during the RTL Chart show about the song: „This song is an impertinence.” During three years was to be heard musically from DJ Ötzi a little. Publications like need Without Us, dance the Rehakles or Servus the Wadln were commercial failures.
In the beginning of 2006 DJ Ötzi brought out together the song „7 sins”, a cover version of the song of Uwe Busse with Marc Pircher. In Austria, Germany and Switzerland he created it with a star on place 1 of the annual charts in 2007 and agreed in Austria and in Germany a double platinum honouring. At the middle of October the hit was taken up as a ballad version and could interfere in Switzerland even under the top 3.
Also the album great moments was one of the most successful ones of 2007. It was published several times in different editions and also got platinum honourings in Austria and Germany.

In autumn, 2007 he believed during an interview with the newspaper Austria that he did not like to be appealed more than DJ Ötzi, because he does not feel perceived as a person. In February, 2008 DJ Ötzi published his next single I wants leb'n.

His interpretations aim at light Tanzbarkeit and party suitability, often short, refrains catchy with it slightly to be noticed. It is the surprise of the year: Gerry Friedle shows in 2012 a new musical facet which arouses enthusiasm and amazed equally. Together with the Country legends of The Bellamy Brothers he puts on the market the album "Simply The Best of all" and opens with it to a new genre: DJ Ötzi dedicates himself of the Countrymusik and sings for the first time a complete album on English one!
How now? Rustic, American Country sound in combination with catchy hit pop? What strikes as maybe strange at first, is a successful cooperation and the most unusual sound experiment of the year. Though two worlds meet, however, it understand DJ Ötzi and The Bellamy Brothers capably to unite this, rather: You have succeeded in creating a new world with her sound.
When three musicians met at the beginning of the year in a recording studio in Berlin, a musical energy was perceptible right away between them. Everybody three is earthed in spite of great success and on the ground remaining, everybody three tender love connects to the music, everybody three unites the special feel for big hits which inspire the masses, touch and move.
In an intensive and tender cooperation created DJ Ötzi and The Bellamy Brothers an album which unites the biggest hits all, but still comes along in a new sound. Since Gerry Friedle sings on this work all at once again on English and appears vocally from an absolutely new side. Gerry Friedle is valid since his breakthrough as a DJ Ötzi in 1999 as a close-cash, Austrian national hero and the most successful export artist of the country. He created it with more than 20 singles in the German charts and sold more than 16 million sound carriers. With songs like "Anton from Tyrol", "Hey baby" or "a star" created he not only legendary hits, but kept for months at the head of the charts. Grown up on a farm in Florida, the brothers David and Howard Bellamy were always music-interested. During young years they founded the tape "Jericho" and made the first walking attempts as a musician. When they heard in 1976 from a song which a Roady of Neil Diamond had written, recognised Bellamy Brothers how they were called from now on, the hit potential and took up "Let Your Love Flow".
Therefore her destiny was sealed: The number achieved worldwide top orders in the charts and became in Germany of Jürgen Drews gecovert: Also "a bed in the grain field" shot directly at place 1 of the charts. From then on were Bellamy Brothers a firm size in the Country scene and celebrated above all in Europe to great success. In 1979 the single "If I Said You Have A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me" reached place 1 of the Country charts once more. Since that time wrote, travelled and published both brothers countless albums.
