Corona is an Italian dance and pop group, who found success in 1994 with the worldwide hit, "The Rhythm of the Night". Corona is fronted by Brazilian performer Olga Souza.
The Rhythm of The Night

The project's debut single was "The Rhythm Of The Night". It was released in Italy in November 1993 on the DWA record label, and became an instant hit. It stayed at number 1 on the Italian music chart for eight consecutive weeks. However, the song was not released elsewhere until the following year. A remixed version of the song became a number 2 hit in the United Kingdom in September 1994. It contained samples from Bizarre Inc's song "Playing With Knives", and Say When!'s "Save Me".

Like other 1990s Eurodance/Hi-NRG songs that eventually became American hits as well, such as "Get Ready For This", "Twilight Zone" and "Tribal Dance" by 2 Unlimited and "Strike It Up", "I Don't Know Anybody Else" and "Everybody Everybody" by Black Box, "The Rhythm of The Night" did not catch on in the United States until well after its success had peaked in Europe. By spring 1995, however, the song was all over American radio and clubs, eventually reaching #11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Corona followed up its hit with the 1995 singles "Baby Baby" and "Try Me Out", which saw similar success. The single "I Don't Wanna Be a Star" was a moderate hit.

A fifth single, "Do You Want Me", became a regional hit in discotheques in the Eastern U.S. The album, The Rhythm Of The Night sold modestly, peaking at #2 on the US Top Heatseekers chart and #154 on the Billboard 200.
1998 to 2004

Corona's second album, Walking On Music was released in 1998 on the independent record label of Francesco Bontempi. The album did not produce any major hits in Europe or North America.However, the album did yield two minor Stateside dancehall hits with "Walking On Music" and "The Power Of Love". In 2000, Olga Souza released the third Corona album, this time on the Abril Music label in Brazil. Francesco Bontempi co-wrote some of the songs on the album, but he did not participate in the album's production. The album was called And Me U and Corona's name was changed to

Towards the end of 2005, Corona re-emerged onto the European music scene with "Back In Time", peaking at #36 in the Italian sales chart.

In late 2006, Olga De Souza returned with a new single under the Corona moniker entitled "I'll Be Your Lady", which she sang and had co-written herself.

In 2007, Swedish dance group Sunblock did a cover version of "Baby Baby".
2010

Corona returned in 2010, with the album Y Generation (it reached #1 on the Italian iTunes dance album chart). The first single release was "Angel". The videoclip of "Angel" was recorded in Italy, with "Saturday" becoming the second single release from the album, followed by "My Song" in 2011.

Corona is an Italian Dancefloor-Act which became known primarily with the voice of Sandra ("Sandy") Chambers. Beside Corona she also sang for numerous other Italian dance floor projects (among other things J.K., Benassi Bros.) Like in the 1990s unusual, a model was not engaged as a face and signboard of the project. In the case of Corona it concerned the Brazilian Olga de Souza (* 16th of July, 1968 in Rio de Janeiro). Produced by Francesco Bontempi (better famously than Lee Marrow), they managed with Rhythm of the Night in December, 1993 a hit which stood during 13 weeks as the number 1 in the Italian charts. The song to this song comes from Giovanna Bersola. A year later Sandra Chambers took over all song part and baby baby, and in July, 1995 Try Me followed Out and, finally, I Don't Wanna Be a star . Other singles 1997 and 2000 could not go back any more to the first success.

After voucher tempos the producers Francesco Conte and Paolo Dughero with rather moderate success and another musical style direction continue since 2000 the Corona-Act. On this occasion, supposedly Olga de Souza sings herself.

In 2012 the German Dance-Project Cascada published own version of The Rhythm Of The Night and reached with it also the charts.

Early life

Souza was born on 16 July 1968 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to a musical family. Her father was a musician and her mother was a singer. Ever since she was young, music has been her passion. Olga worked in a bank for a few years before deciding to travel around the world. She finally arrived in Italy, where she was discovered by the band Corona.

Corona released their first single, The Rhythm of the Night in 1994, which remained at #1 in the Italian charts for 13 weeks. Corona kehrte 2010, mit dem Album Y Generation zurück (es reichte #1 auf der italienischen ITunes- Tanzalbum-Karte). Die erste einzelne Ausgabe war "Engel". Neben Corona sang sie auch für zahlreiche andere italienische Dancefloor-Projekte (u.a. J.K., Benassi Bros.) Wie in den 1990er Jahren nicht unüblich, wurde als Gesicht und Aushängeschild des Projekts ein Model engagiert. Im Fall von Corona handelte es sich um die Brasilianerin Olga de Souza (* 16. Juli 1968 in Rio de Janeiro). Produziert von Francesco Bontempi (besser bekannt als Lee Marrow), gelang ihnen mit Rhythm of the Night im Dezember 1993 ein Hit, der 13 Wochen lang als die Nummer 1 in den italienischen Charts stand. Der Gesang zu diesem Song stammt von Giovanna Bersola. Ein Jahr später übernahm Sandra Chambers alle Gesangsparts und es folgte Baby Baby, und im Juli 1995 Try Me Out und schließlich I Don’t Wanna Be a Star. Weitere Singles 1997 und 2000 konnten nicht mehr an die ersten Erfolge anknüpfen.

Nach Bontempi führen seit 2000 die Produzenten Francesco Conte und Paolo Dughero mit eher mäßigem Erfolg und einer anderen musikalischen Stilrichtung den Corona-Act fort. Angeblich singt Olga de Souza hierbei selbst.

Im Jahr 2012 veröffentlichte das deutsche Dance-Project Cascada eine eigene Version von The Rhythm Of The Night und erreichte damit ebenfalls die Charts.
