Rednex ist ein 1994 gegründetes Musikprojekt aus Schweden.
Rednex entstanden als Retortenband der Produzenten Janne Ericsson, Örjan Öberg und Pat Reiniz (bürgerlich Patrick Edenberg.
Die Gruppe besteht aus den Musikern Annika Ljungberg („Mary Joe“, Frontfrau), „Ace“, „Snake“ und „Maverick“ (von 1994 bis 2001 bestehend aus den Musikern Billy Ray, Bobby Sue, B.B.
Stiff und der Frontfrau Mia Löfgren („Whippy“), von 2001 bis 2004 bestehend aus Julie-Anne Tulley („Scarlet“, Frontfrau), Dagger (Leadsinger), Joe Cagg und Jaylee, Anfang 2004 wurden Joe Cagg und Jaylee von „Ace“ und „Crock“ abgelöst, Ende desselben Jahres entschied sich auch „Scarlet“ für einen Ausstieg.).
Der Name Rednex leitet sich vom amerikanischen Ausdruck Redneck (wörtlich übersetzt: Rotnacken) ab, einer in den
USA üblichen, abwertenden Bezeichnung für einen Südstaatler im Hinblick auf alle damit verbundenen Klischees und Stereotype (politischer/religiöser Konservativismus/Reaktionismus, ländliche/bäuerliche Lebensweise und Country-Musik), welche die Band durch ihren Musikstil, ihr Outfit und ihre Videoclips verkörpert (und karikiert/parodiert).
Das Stockholmer Projekt verschiedener Musiker, Stylisten und Produzenten landete 1994 mit der Coverversion des nordamerikanischen
Country-Liedes Cotton Eye Joe ihren ersten internationalen Nr.1-Hit, der sich 25 Wochen in den deutschen Singlecharts hielt. Allein in Deutschland verkauften sie über 1,7 Mio Singles.Als Nachfolgehits erschienen Old Pop in an Oak und Wish You Were Here. Axel Breitung geschriebenen Hit Spirit Of The Hawk belegt die schwedische Gruppe erneut wochenlang Platz 1 in den deutschen Single-Charts.
Typisch für Rednex sind schnelle Stücke wie Cotton Eye Joe, Wild’n Free oder Spirit of the Hawk, die Eurodancemusik mit Country-Elementen und Westernfilm-Samples mischen. Charterfolge erzielten sie jedoch auch mit den beiden Balladen Wish You Were Here und Hold Me For A While.
Im März 2006 nahm die Band - mit neuen und teilweise altbekannten Mitgliedern (so ersetzte Mary Joe wieder Scarlet) - mit dem Song Mama take me home an der schwedischen Vorausscheidung zum Eurovision Song Contest 2006 teil. Im Folgejahr beteiligten sie sich gemeinsam mit der Band Ro-Mania an der nationalen Vorentscheidung Rumäniens. Ihr Titel Well-o-wee wurde aber wegen einer Verletzung der Spielregeln disqualifiziert. Im Jahr 2008 traten sie erneut mit Ro-Mania mit dem Titel RailRoad, RailRoad beim rumänischen Vorentscheid an, schieden allerdings bereits im Halbfinale aus. Mit ihrem Titel Football is our religion steuerten sie einen Song zur Fußball-Europameisterschaft 2008 in der Schweiz und Österreich bei.

Seit dem Jahr 2009 werden 100 Aktien der Band im Wert von je 1008 SEK verkauft, die alle Rechte beinhalten.
2012 erscheint das vierte Studioalbum "Saturday Night Beaver", welches erstmals unter dem Lable RockaRecords veröffentlicht wird. Als erste Singleauskopplung erscheint daraus am 31. Dezember 2011 "Raise your Glass".
Band Members
In January 2012 did Rednex develop and introduce a new idea. This idea is totally unproven and unheard of in the music industry, so basically in Rednex terms, pretty much the way we have always done things... a bit different...
We now have a larger community of performers, a ”pool” of artists that in total make up more than one Rednex set-up. The days of a permanent band is gone, though on stage we will normally perform with one girl and three guys (as we have done since 1998).
As you know, Rednex has changed performers many times and have had 15 performers in total up until 2011 with various different set-ups (see a collection of them below), so in a way, this new idea is not entirely new, but boosted towards greater freedom and flexibility.
This idea will create more freedom for all performers and the Rednex group itself since Rednex will not be entirely dependent on one single performer. This makes it possible for Rednex to always play anywhere at anytime.
For the performers themselves will it mean that they can be more flexible when it comes to personal commitments and free time, and being in Rednex will not hold them back from side projects (which has been more difficult in the past).{source}

We will be able to always ensure the audience a completely fresh line-up with maximum energy as we can distribute the performances evenly within the pool. There will not be fixed set-ups but they will be mixed up intentionally to keep creating an exciting blend both artistically and socially. By doing this, Rednex will always maintain a high energy level and quality on the performances.
The idea is as old as Rednex itself. It was an intention already before there even was a band in 1994 (keep in mind that Rednex was created by three music writers/producers and not by performers), though the idea was never properly implemented, mostly due to the fact that record companies were a lot more powerful back in the days.
Also, as we have had many great performers through the years and still have, we would like to be able to give them all a chance to perform and not be too selective. To exclude great performers is not the Rednex way of doing things and by opening up for all our great artists will also lessen the competition within the group, as no one will be left out.
We also see an advantage towards the fans, the bookers and the media, as the fans and media will have more artists to put their interest in. For the bookers of shows will we have greater possibility to tailor make a set-up for a specific event. If a booker requires a certain performer, this will be possible.
Ultimately, Rednex has always been more different than a traditional pop band. We assume that you already know in what way otherwise you wouldn't be reading this on our web site right now. We have always preferred to be called an entertainment group rather than a pop band as we feel that a traditional pop band is a bit old-school, as the attention is too focused around certain individuals rather than the music, the show and the content of the entertainment.

In the wake of the Grid’s innovative coupling of down home hillbilly with techno, there were bound to be those waiting in the wings to duplicate the formula. Rednex were ostensibly a five-piece family affair, comprising Mary Joe (vocals), Ken Tacky (vocals/banjo), Bobby Sue (violin) and Billie Ray (violin). The press story conjured up to describe their evolution was entertaining enough to repeat: drawing personnel from Brunkeflo City, Idaho, where Mary Joe’s ancestors moved to from Sweden (where she grew up) two centuries ago. ‘Billie Ray and Ken Tacky are cousins, Billie Ray and Bobbie Sue are half-brothers cos they have the same father. My cousin’s aunt is sister to Bobbie Sue’s cousin’s uncle. Since my family moved there, no one has come in from the outside, so everyone in the town is related in some way’. However, Waltons shenanigans aside, there was doubtless more truth in the fact that Euro-dance producer Pat Reniz had a large hand in the project. Rednex enjoyed massive success with ‘Cotton-Eye Joe’, a UK number 1, following up with the similar ‘Old Pop In An Oak’.

IN 2009 Scarlet Dagger Ace Ratclaw and Joe Cagg took back to the scene after a smallbreak and is currently toruing globe There have been many reports of former members passing off as Rednex in shows and some have even been mentioned in the tour plan careful ... if these shows are not listed as Scarlet Dagger Ace and Joe Cagg ... then it is not the real Rednex currently supported by Rednex AB, the only official owner of the brand.
In October, 2002 Rednex has brought out her third album "The Best of all of the west". The single "Cotton Eye Joe in 2002" is her 10th single and follows 8 "top 40 European hits". Among them: "Cotton-Eye of Joe"; "Wish You Were Here" & "Spirit Of The Hawk" to which it made the volume which was a single Charts since 1980 (Modern Talking with 25 weeks in the longest place 1 of the German were 19 weeks of place 2). {source}

The occurred was recompensed accordingly: Rednex was lent the echo honouring (the German recompense to the Grammy) for the "best international pop single" ("Spirit Of The Hawk") - already the 5th song which was sold worldwide about 1 million times! Rednex shows a stage show of the superlatives to the audience: Super-hits, a perfect stage show and a lot of "game, game west"!
What has begun in 1992 in Stockholm, Sweden as a playful experiment, today a big, but still in loose atmosphere is a working international creative team. There is of producers, song writers, artists, programmers, script writers, engineers etc. who have a unique work and Ideenfindungs style. The result is a perfect entertainment before the background of the wild west. The actors of this playground come from three different countries (England, Sweden, Holland) and they have chosen Amsterdam as a base what entailed a (vorrübergehende) immigration of the tape members.
Scarlet (song), Dagger (song), Joe Cagg (song + guitar) and Jay Lee (violin) were successful before the common project "Rednex" as soloists. After the first public appearance of Rednex this is the 5th tape constellation. Four were already before a part of the team and now have removed the previous tape members (Whippy, Billy Ray, Bobby Sue, B.B Stiff) and now let her strengths flow in onto the project.
Their live show symbolises the Rednex-Spirit and gives to the spectacular show high-energy, positive and unconventionally face which the fans know since beginning of Rednex and love. The unconcerned life style is also reflected in the text of "The Chase" again which picks out as a central theme the steadfastness and leaning against the compulsions which we meet in the everyday life. And even if one is hunted, one should put to himself to the challenge "let the chase come my way". Today this wish for independence is as strong as in the wild western of the past.
